The Ghana Football Association (GFA) spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum, says the senior national team will fight to win every point at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars will compete at the 34th edition of the AFCON in Ivory Coast, which gets underway in 9 days.
The performance of the team in recent times has not been impressive. Ghana exited the group stage of the last AFCON in Cameroon.
Speaking on WoezorTV’s sports programme, The Arena, Asante Twum gave an assurance that the playing body is determined to make an impact.
“Ghana or Black Stars may not be ranked among the best or favourites, but we know you don’t get results on a silver platter at AFCON. You have to work hard,” he stated.
“We will fight to win every single point and win every game. The players are determined to do that,” he added.
The Black Stars, aiming to end the country’s 41-year AFCON trophy drought, opened camp on Tuesday, January 2, in Kumasi. The team will face Namibia in a friendly game before leaving for Ivory Coast on January 10.
Ghana is in Group B for the tournament and will face Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars of Ghana will first come up against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, 2024, then face Egypt at the same venue four days later and then Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on January 22, 2024.
