Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, on Thursday secured their spot in the 2024 Africa Nations Cup tournament by defeating the Central African Republic (CAR) 2-1.
The visitors, CAR, scored first in the 25th minute when Louis Mafouta beat Ghana’s goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi. The Black Stars came back strongly and managed an equaliser just before halftime through a beautiful free kick from midfielder Mohammed Kudus.
Despite creating several opportunities, the hosts could not convert them into goals in the second half, while the visitors relied on counterattacks to pose a threat.
In the 88th minute, Antoine Semenyo passed the ball to Ernest Appiah, who tapped it in and secured the victory for the Black Stars.
With this win, the Black Stars earned a place in the AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire in 2024.
