Mahama prepares to combat corruption; sets up ORAL team.

In a decisive move ahead of his swearing-in as president of Ghana on January 7, 2025, Mr John Dramani Mahama has assembled a team to begin work on his promise to recover the proceeds of corruption.

This initiative, part of Mahama’s campaign promise to tackle corruption, signals a firm commitment to accountability and the purification of governance in Ghana.

The team, announced by the Mahama Transition Team, is tasked with gathering information from the public and other sources related to suspected corrupt activities.

The team includes an impressive roster of experts: MP for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, former Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo, retired commissioner of police Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer.

Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) emerged as a crucial element of Mahama’s anti-corruption promise during the 2024 campaign. It focuses on restoring public trust by ensuring that individuals responsible for corrupt acts are held accountable.

The plan aligns with Mahama’s broader vision to enhance transparency and integrity within the government, which has become an urgent priority for many Ghanaians disillusioned by past corruption scandals.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the Mahama Transition Team, stressed the importance of public involvement in this effort. The team is eager to receive insights and reports from citizens. This collaborative approach will foster a culture of openness, where citizens feel empowered to report misconduct without fear.

As Mahama prepares to assume office again, supporters expect high-level action against corruption. Establishing this team is being keenly observed as a critical first step towards fulfilling Mahama’s promises and reshaping the country’s governance landscape.

With the 2024 elections approaching, Mahama’s commitment to combat corruption could play a pivotal role in swaying voter sentiment, making transparency and accountability central themes in this crucial political season.
