Akufo-Addo criticised by former Attorney General over Gyakye Quayson’s Trial.

Former Attorney General Martin A.B.K. Amidu has criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo for making a “shameful” and “prejudicial” statement regarding the criminal charges against MP-elect for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

Amidu stated that the President, as an astute lawyer, should have known that the accused is innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

He also accused Akufo-Addo of “undermining the decisions of the courts and the rule of law” by making an autocratic statement at his party’s rally in Assin North on 25 June 2023.

In a write-up to congratulate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the MP-elect, the former Attorney General and former Special Prosecutor stated further that the President’s actions betrayed the Republic of Ghana and created the impression that the weaponisation of criminal justice administration was upon his express instructions.

Mr Amidu praised the people of Assin North for standing up for the truth over lies and deception, calling for an end to Akufo-Addo’s autocracy.

“The Assin North people deserve our congratulations for standing up to and showing the way that Nana Akufo-Addo’s autocracy is now on life support and must be terminated come 7 December 2024, no matter his long game to abuse that election as well.”
