Black Stars get $2m from Ghanaian businesses

$2 million has been realised from corporate Ghana to support the senior national team, Black Stars’ participation in the African Cup of Nations and the world cup.

This is out of a projected $15 million the Ministry of Youth and Sports is expecting to raise from corporate institutions to support a $10 million pledge from government for the competitions.

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif told parliament that the $2 million realised so far is from pledges redeemed from the business community following a special presidential fund-raising campaign attended by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“It can be recalled that His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo invited corporate Ghana to a breakfast meeting in order to raise about $25m US Dollars to support government’s funding of our various national teams, especially the Black Stars,” Mr. Ussif said.

“So far, corporate Ghana has supported us to raise about $2m US Dollars, and I want to, on behalf of the President, thank all those who have fulfilled their pledges.

“I also want to appeal to those who are yet to fulfill their pledges to do so because there are many upcoming international competitions for our national teams.”
