The AFCON 2023 final was a thrilling match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the hosts, the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
Despite initially appearing second-best, the Super Eagles took the lead at halftime through their captain, William Troost-Ekong. However, the determined hosts quickly responded as Franck Kessie scored a header off a corner to level the score just past the hour mark.
With under 10 minutes remaining, Sebastien Haller scored the winner for the hosts. Haller, who battled with testicular cancer, made a remarkable comeback scoring the winning goal in the 81st minute, securing their victory and the Africa Cup of Nations title.
Côte d’Ivoire emerged as the champions with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in Abidjan. Congratulations to Côte d’Ivoire on their remarkable achievement!
