John Mahama greets Ghanaians, encouraging vaccination against COVID

Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has used the occasion of the New Year to encourage his fellow country people to continue to observe the needed protocols to protect themselves against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a short message on the eve of the 2022 new year, President Mahama observed that the easily transmissible omicron variant is spreading very fast and putting undue pressure on medical facilities and personnel, advising Ghanaians to get vaccinated.

“Over the last 2 weeks, many people are nursing colds and flu-like symptoms, but with most people not going for a COVID test, it is being attributed to the seasonal harmattan weather”, he said.

Mr. Mahama also referred to a distress notice from the President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) Dr. Frank Serebuor about the increasing number of people who “are having to go into isolation because of the more transmissible covid-19 omicron variant”.

He also cautioned all to take their health seriously and observe the needed protocols.

“The New Year season is here! Let’s be more conscious of our health as we pray for health workers because of the more transmissible omicron variant. Let’s also observe the COVID protocols. Observe social distancing, wash your hands as frequently as possible, avoid handshakes, use hand sanitizers and wear a mask.”

The former President asked all to stay safe in the New Year, wishing all “Ghanaians a Happy New Year.”
