Former Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has presented a quantity of drinks and a cash amount of five thousand Ghana Cedis to support the coronation of the new paramount chief for Kpando.
Sunday’s installation of Torgbuiga Okpekpewuokpe Torgbuiga Dagadu IX as Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area will end almost almost 40 years of chieftaincy disputes and legal tussles.
Volta Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Henry Ametefee, accompanied by some senior members of the party made the presentation on behalf of John Mahama to the traditional council.
The delegation included a former Minister for the Interior and a citizen of Kpando, Prosper Douglas Bani, Regional Vice Chairman George Loh, Kpando Constituency Executives led by Chairman Godfred Agbeteti and a former Constituency Chairman Killian Donkor.
In another development, the NDC MP for Kpando, Mrs. Della Sowah, has presented a cow to the Akpini Traditional Council for the coronation ceremony. The MP has been commended for the supportive and integral role towards the upcoming successful installation of a new chief after almost four decades.
The accepted candidate for the Paramountcy, Bernard Elikem Korku Buachi-Ablenyi, is from the Ablenyi gate of the Besiaku royal family.
News of the installation and an end to the decades-old chieftaincy conflict has brought lots of excitement to the people of and residents of Kpando. Many are looking forward to Sunday’s installation ceremony, which marks the start of a new era in the history of the traditional area.
