Komfo Anokye Hospital accountant sacked for blowing whistle against corruption

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi has sacked the hospital’s accountant, Awuni Akyireba, for petitioning the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate allegations of misappropriation of COVID-19 funds by the facility.

Mr. Akyireba in his petition asked the Commission to investigate the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso, accusing management of misusing COVID-19 funds that accrued during the height of the pandemic in 2020.

Starr News reports that the whistleblower has been sacked by the Board of the hospital in a dismissal letter signed by the Chairman Nana Effah Ampenteng who is also the Omanhene of Bompata.

The letter, which Starr News says it has sighted, directed that the accountant should be paid his entitlements and his name deleted from the staff payroll of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, effective 20th December 2021.

Mr Awuni has confirmed to Starr News that he has indeed received the dismissal letter from his immediate boss on the 30th December 2021. He has however served notice that he will take legal action to seek redress against the hospital.
