After almost 40 years, Kpando in the Volta Region will this weekend witness the installation of a paramount chief for the Akpini Traditional Area. The process, after years of disputes and legal tussles, commenced last week and will climax on Sunday March 6, 2022.
The accepted candidate for the Paramountcy, Bernard Elikem Korku Buachi-Ablenyi, is from the Ablenyi gate of the Besiaku royal family and will be installed as Torgbuiga Okpekpewuokpe Torgbuiga Dagadu IX.
News of the installation and an end to the decades-old chieftaincy conflict has brought lots of excitement to the people of and residents of Kpando. Many are looking forward to Sunday’s installation ceremony, which marks the start of a new era in the history of the traditional area.
Members of the Akpini Elite Group who supported the implementation of the report and recommendations of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs’ reconciliation committee have expressed their appreciation to the committee, chiefs and people for the success chalked.
Chairman of the Akpini Elite Group, Dr. Ernest Aculey Ansah, told WoezorTV they are very happy with the progress made in restoring peace to Kpando and paving the way for the celebration of the Danyibakaka festival.
The Volta Regional House of Chiefs’ reconciliation committee, chaired by Torgbui Kweku Ayim IV, Paramount Chief of Ziavi Traditional Area, submitted its final report to the Chiefs and People of the Akpini Traditional Council in September 2020.
Paramount on the list of recommendations was the selection and enstoolment of a new paramount chief for the Akpini Traditional Area.
