NDC will reverse ban on importation of used cars – Mahama.

ohn Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that if he wins the 2024 general elections, he will reverse the ban on the importation of used cars.

He believes that lifting the ban will help generate more employment for skilled youth and traders. The NDC’s plan to remove the ban on the importation of used vehicles is also because that is what the ordinary Ghanaian can afford.

Speaking during an interaction with artisans and traders at the Techiman magazine in the Bono East Region, Mahama urged the government to support local automobile assembly companies by purchasing a significant portion of their newly assembled vehicles.

According to him, many Ghanaians cannot afford the cost of brand-new cars being assembled by the companies.

“There are vehicle assembly plants owned by foreigners with the goal of assembling vehicle parts and selling brand-new cars to Ghanaians. The affordability of these new cars is a challenge for many Ghanaians; the government should play a role in addressing this issue by purchasing a significant portion of these locally assembled cars.”

Explaining further, the NDC flag bearer said, “given the substantial demand for vehicles in the government sector, such a move could contribute to the profitability of these companies.”

Mr. Mahama is on a countrywide #BuildingGhanaTour to interact with Ghanaians through community engagements, town hall meetings, and courtesy visits.
