The world-class trio of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar have yet to get firing for PSG and tonight we saw examples of the good and bad of the MNM.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were regularly left with the three men up top while the other seven tried to defend as their forward line failed to offer any defensive protection or any sign of pressing.
For a manager who has built his style on pressing from the front through the relentless work rate of his forwards, this might be enough of a reason for Pochettino to tear his hair out.
But then we see what it could look like when all the parts are working correctly, as PSG found themselves ahead through their only real moment of quality in the match.
Neymar’s ball carrying eventually led to Messi picking up the ball and his neat footwork and pass set up Mbappé for the goal, albeit with the aid of a deflection.
It was one moment of real quality that reminded us all of what this trio can do when it works together. Their manager will hope that starts to consistently happen.
