Mahama congratulates Kenya’s William Ruto

Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has sent a congratulatory message to Kenya’s President-elect, William Ruto, following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election victory in a ruling delivered on Monday.

Ruto, the current Deputy President of Kenya, defeated Raila Odinga in the August election, with 50.49% of the votes against Odinga’s 48.85%. Odinga, who had the support of President Uhuru Kenyatta went to the Supreme Court challenging the results declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

In his message, President Mahama urged Ruto to work towards uniting the Kenyan people, adding that he has confidence in the new Kenyan leader to deliver on his mandate to his people.

“As bearer of the trust of the Kenyan people, as affirmed in a clear, transparent manner by the Supreme Court, this is the time to unite the good people of Kenya for continued growth and prosperity. I have every confidence that you will deliver on your mandate to the people.”
